On May 10, 2012, SPMH presented ''Hooray for Hollywood'', one of a series of concerts featuring the Albee Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ. Performances were held at 10:30 am and 7:00 pm in Cincinnati Music Hall's elegant Ballroom.
In the concert, acclaimed theatre organist Jelani Eddington performed hit themes from films both old and new on the Mighty Wurlitzer. He was joined by area theatre performers Carmyn Maria Howe and Seth Wallen. Songs included the themes from James Bond films, Goldfinger and For Your Eyes Only. Other songs performed were hits from West Side Story, All That Jazz, Titanic, and The Wizard of Oz.
This Wurlitzer Theatre organ was first installed in the Albee Theatre downtown and was played to accompany silent movies. Following the advent of ''talkies'' the organ was played between features.
Mr. Eddington is an award-winning theatre organist, including the prestigious ''Theatre Organist of the Year,'' bestowed on him in 2001. He has performed in most of the major concert venues in the U.S. and has toured extensively throughout the world. The ''Hooray for Hollywood!'' performance was Mr. Eddington's second performance in Cincinnati on the Wurlitzer.
Concerts on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ are held in Music Hall in the spring and early winter, and tickets are $25 each, with group discounts. They are sold at the Music Hall Box Office, online at the Cincinnati Arts Association website, and by phone at (513) 621-2787. These events sell out quickly!
