SPMH announces New Appointments to Board of Directors

The Society for the Preservation of Music Hall (SPMH) announces the appointment of a new President of its Board of Directors, a new member, as well as the full slate of officers and board members.

SPMH's annual meeting parlayed the official announcement that the historic, 1878 landmark will completely shut down in June for what is now a $129 million construction project. Music Hall is home to the region's largest performing arts groups: The Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati May Festival and, when renovations are completed, Cincinnati Ballet. The Cincinnati Arts Association manages the hall.

Peter E. Koenig, president, SPMH Peter E. Koenig, new Board President, has served in multiple roles for SPMH since 2007. Peter is a Vice President at Buechner Haffer Meyers and Koenig Co, L.P.A. He has maintained a result-oriented law practice in Cincinnati for over 30 years. His practice focuses on zoning, land use, eminent domain, real estate, foreclosure, workouts, bankruptcy, receivership, probate, trust and estate disputes, contracts, personal injury, commercial and other complex civil litigation matters in Ohio and Kentucky. Peter has a special interest in historic preservation and theatre.

SPMH would like to thank Immediate Past President, Don Siekmann for his leadership and continued support. Don has dedicated over 5 years to SPMH. He has been an enthusiastic community volunteer for many years and served as a board member of a number of arts organizations including the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Arts Association, Cincinnati Theatrical Association, and the Cincinnati Ballet.

The newest board member is Hyde Park resident, Thea Tjepkema, bringing experience in several historic house museums and art museum and galleries, education, preservation and sales.

Current SPMH Board of Directors are: President: Peter Koenig, Immediate Past President: Don Siekmann, VP: Lisa Allison, Joanne Grueter, Marcella Hsiung, Kathy Janson, and Ed Rider. Recording Secretary: Karen McKim. Treasurer: Mark Weadick. Directors are: Andrew Bowen, Meredith Downton, Melissa Godoy, Megan Hall, Barbara Harshman, William Henrich, Tricia Johnson, Ken Jones, kenneith Kreider, paul Muller, Ramon Rodriguez, Rosemary Schlachter, Sue Sommer, Thea Tjepkema, and Bethany Vondran. Directors Emeriti are Norma Peterson and Joyce Van Wye.

The mission of The Society for the Preservation of Music Hall is to preserve, promote, improve, and provide education about Music Hall, funding special projects in addition to Music Hall management's operational and maintenance obligations, and facilitating communications among Music Hall management, owner, and tenants, in order to perpetuate Music Hall as the premier cultural center of the region, and as a National Historic Landmark of international significance.
